As the New Year starts, it’s good to take a look back and see where you’ve been. Smith Optics is doing just that. Mining 35 years of sunglass design, they’ve selected a series of vintage styles and shapes from their extensive archive, updated them with 21st-century lens technology, and created a collection of throwback editions to celebrate the brand’s long and storied history.
The result is four classically cool pairs of glasses offering a subdued vintage look with period-specific details, such as the logos and the original two-tone fleece carrying cases. Our favorite is the Delano from 1993. The lightweight tortoise-shell frame has thin stems and a classic flat shape that makes the specs seem extremely modern. The polarized carbonic TLT lenses provide up-to-date clarity and precision. [$119; smithoptics.com]
