The selling of Federal public lands has become a very real threat thanks to the introduction of H.R. 621 (also known as “Disposal of Excess Federal Lands Act”), the Department of Interior's potentially glossy views on oil and gas contracts, and the current president’s clear call to privatize the lands. So it’s never been more important to remember this: This land belongs to we, the public.
Organizations such as Backcountry Hunters and Anglers understand this. Since the early 2000s, the Missoula, Montana–based hunting organization, which describes itself as “the sportsmen’s voice for our wild public lands, waters and wildlife,” has been a big advocate of keeping our hunting, fishing, and recreation lands in our hands.
But it doesn't require lobbying and advocating to take pride in America's great public lands. What we need to do is use them, and let others know about them. That's why we think there's about to be a rush on this T-shirt from Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, which, really says it all: “Public Land Owner.” Before the celebrity pile-on begins (hey, Joe Rogan's wearing one), we suggest you get yours now. Buy them here, starting at $25.
