The Statesman Look
Phillips’ Philosophy: “I wanted to make sure that the tailoring was as precise as The Kingsman’s, but in a very American fashion. For inspiration I looked to ‘70s-era Lee Majors, Steve McQueen, and especially Robert Redford. Those guys were the international ski playboys of their time. The shirts were done in a Western style, but made much slimmer than usual to show off their shapes. They look amazing because Turnbull and Asser helped us develop them.
“Denim is such an American staple. So we partnered with Jean Shop to create our own kind. That is why the characters are always wearing denim, and we gave it a slight boot-cut flair. The boots came from Lucchese. Channing’s character doesn’t wear a blazer, because he is more of a rogue, so instead of a blazer we gave him a denim jacket with a flannel lining and corduroy. Top it off with a Stetson hat and you look like an American hero.”
