We certainly aren’t the first to note that all things eighties are back, for better and worse. But one version of throwback style we’re loving are New Balance’s 420s. “These days our jeans and khakis fit us better than ever,” says New Balance’s Steve Gardner. “So we dispatched designers to our archive in search of simple shoes that could complement today’s trimmer look.” The 420, which debuted as a racing flat in 1983, represents a return to form for the Boston-based company. “At that time, we were all about clean, lightweight, fast running shoes,” says Gardner. “Today’s 420s, which have a very sleek, clean profile, fit right in with that.” The suede and mesh upper is breathable for warmer months, while the addition of a modern rubber outsole ensures you’ll be lacing these up for seasons to come.
