In his new book, Style Drivers, the 2017 NBA MVP, whose sense of style may be the wildest and most cutting-edge in all of sports, shares his sartorial secrets, along with interviews with other athletes, designers, and creative types.
Westbrook found time en route to Paris Fashion Week to answer our questions.
Do you always feel pressured to be well-dressed?
I don’t feel pressure, because I enjoy it so much—dressing up and expressing myself through what I wear.
What piece of clothing should every man have in his wardrobe?
A great pair of jeans he feels good in—they can be dressed up or down.
You wear a uniform when you play. What do you think of a guy wearing a “uniform”—a similar outfit—every day on a job?
I like to express myself through clothes, but if you’re more comfortable in a uniform, that’s cool. Just be yourself.
Who are your favorite designers?
I don’t have favorites. I’ll wear anything from high-end designers to streetwear brands to vintage clothes to things I find at a thrift store.
What do you wear for:
A black-tie affair?
The ultimate classic designer tuxedo.
A backyard BBQ?
Ripped jean shorts, a vintage T-shirt, and sneakers.
A dinner date?
Nice jeans, a shirt, a bomber or leather jacket, and shoes that set off the entire outfit.
I train a lot, so most days you can catch me in some tights, shorts, sneakers, and a T-shirt.
What do you own the most of?
Shoes! I for sure have more than 1,000 pairs.
You’re one of the best on the court and best-dressed off it. Which would you most like to be remembered for?
I hope I’m remembered for being an all-around person, someone who was a great player but also had interests beyond the court.
