There’s some sage wisdom Game of Thrones star Kit Harrington displays every time he hits a red carpet: that the shiny, helmet-head look is dead. Barbers around the country are letting their tins of high-hold pomade collect dust. Instead, they reach for styling cream, a low-hold, low-shine product that lets your hair’s natural style come through — just without all the frizz and fluff. The best thing about using this stuff? The more you run your hands through your hair, the cooler it looks.
“Styling cream is so versatile,” says Alexia Saras, head barber trainer at Fellow Barber in New York. “Hairstyles are always changing, and right now it’s longer, textured hair; a more natural look. Styling cream is great for curly, thick, fine, or corse hair, and it has moisturizing ingredients. When people wash their hair, it gets fluffy and puffy. This is really great for that mid-length, unruly look guys want.”
Think your hair is too unruly to be managed by something as light as a cream? Not a problem, says Saras. Just add a little texture paste into the mix.
