Put down that Irish Spring — there’s a new bar of soap in town.
Cliff Original Mint Utility Wash Brick ($10) is hands-down one of the best bars of soap we’ve tried lately. This bar is all-natural in every sense — without chemicals like PEGs, parabens, and sodium laurel sulfate — and will leave your skin clean and moisturized, with a scent of peppermint.
Jared Friesner, who started his Columbus, Ohio–based company by making his own pomade and soap, took a note from his grandpa, Cliff, a farmer who was devoted to making the most of the local landscape.
The soap sure lives up to its farm-to-face ethos: The wash bricks are handcrafted with local goat’s milk that, the company claims, works thanks to its “alpha hydroxy acids…[that] help remove dead skin cells, while high levels of vitamin A help repair and nourish skin tissue.” The hand-poured bar also comes stacked with coconut oil, bentonite clay, and oatmeal to exfoliate and tone, and a blend of essential oils.
We’re partial to the mint brick, but the cedar musk, tea tree, and bay rum all smell great, and there’s a charcoal detox face wash brick ($16) that’s a terrific eye-opener. Each bar is cured for four to six weeks to make it last longer. Friesner recommends keeping it dry after use and storing it on an airy soap dish, and it should last two or three months (depending on use).
