The Walkabout Chino

Leave it to the Aussies to create fashion-forward clothing sturdy enough to go on a walkabout. With its Sureshot Chino, the Sydney-based brand Zanerobe has done just that by shaping a soft cotton blend that washes easily and resists wrinkles into a narrowed, but reasonable silhouette. The company, started by two friends who wanted to make fashion accessible for guys, has successfully created an aesthetic that owes as much to pants worn by her majesty’s soldiers during the days of the empire as the boot-cut revolution of the 1960s.

The Sureshot’s elastic waistband and tapered legs, finished with an elasticized hem, make the pants snug. The faux fly, slant pockets, slight drop crotch, and cool inseam styling make these pants a fresh alternative to traditional chinos – as suited to the club as the beach or barbecue. Unlike most statement pieces, these pants are so comfortable they give even the most beaten-in sweatpants a run for their money.

Available in a huge range of colorways and fun prints (including black leather if you really want to get after it), Sureshot chinos will quickly become one of the most versatile pants in your closet. Great for traveling because they don’t require a belt, Sureshots looks as good with flip flops and a T-shirt as they do with Chuck Taylors, sweaters, or boat shoes. The elastic ankle cuffs take a little getting used to, but make biking to work (or skating to Bondi Beach) extremely comfortable. [$100;]
