Upgrade Your Loungewear

Everyone wants to be comfortable at home. Even Mr. Rogers, that paragon of style, liked to relax and dress down the minute he walked in the door. But those hunting for a more sublime comfort than laying around in your boxers, old sweats, or the time-worn confinement of kicking back in a cardigan and tie: look to Daniel Buchler.

Among the first designers to concentrate on clothes for relaxing, Buchler launched his loungewear brand in 2009 and continues to refine his approach each season.

“When I started,” he explains, “the category was very small and the only real lounge collection, but not luxury, was Calvin Klein.” What continues to set Buchler apart today is the zeal he’s developed, through his 25 years in the business, for the fabrics themselves.

He’s known for going to great lengths to source the finest raw materials with which he creates his own fabric blends. Although the design of his collection tends toward fitted, simple, and refined, he reminds, “It is always comfort first. It is all in the fabrication, the best and the softest.”

But if you think cotton is cotton, think again. To ensure the plush softness of his fabric, he not only sources the finest hand-harvested Pima cotton, he goes to Peru to get it.

The cornerstone of the collection, and a great everyday option, is his Peruvian Pima Cotton Replenishment tees, pants, and shorts, the latter two of which have an elastic waistband and drawstring for a perfect, non-binding fit, two front pockets, one in back, and meticulous stitching for strength. But while the fit is still relaxed and easy, as with all of Buchler’s collection, they’re as refined as loungewear gets without the cardigan and tie.
