Decode the Dress Code
Generally, requested wedding attire will be described on the invite, but there are common requests you should know. “‘Black Tie’ always suggests a tuxedo — this is a dress code that should always be followed,” van Wyck says. “‘Casual’ or ‘Semi-Casual’? Ditch the tie.” But sometimes the dress code might call for something completely different depending on the venue or season, and isn’t as easy to decipher. “If the invitation says ‘Cocktail,’ a suit is perfect,” says Guérard. When your hosts get creative on the invitation and you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to ask what the couple specifically wants the guests to wear so you don't overshadow the main event.
