The Air Jordan III might be the closest that Jordan and his longtime collaborator, design guru Tinker Hatfield, came to pinpointing the ideal balance between form and function. Its elephant print-patterned silhouette paired equally well with jeans and gym shorts, and as a mid-top (an unusual choice in 1988) it anticipated the street wear crowd’s preferred level of ankle support.
