4. The British Museum in London, United Kingdom
A showcase of the cultures of the world, the British Museum in London has 8 million objects inside to take you to Greece, Egypt, Korea, and back. Among its massive collection is a wing full of ancient Egyptian coffins, mummies, and jewelry, including a stone panel from the Southwest Palace of Sennacherib that occupies every wall of a single room. The room is adjacent to an enormous pair of human-headed winged bulls that guard the entrance of the Khorsabad wing, just as 2,000 years ago, they guarded the gates of King Sargon II’s citadel. Tour it here.
