Hocking Hills, Ohio
Most Like: Scotland
While the sweeping landscape of the Scottish Highlands is the stuff of legends, Hocking Hills in Southeastern Ohio hopes to inspire the same wanderlust. For an immersive Scottish experience, book a stay at the Glenlaurel Inn. The inn’s accommodations, including crofts (cabins) and cottages, are named after members of prominent Scottish clans. The resort’s dining venue require a business casual dress code, though “kilts are acceptable any night of the week.” Other Scottish touches include a bagpiper on Saturday evenings and a Robert Burns Dinner in January to celebrate the 18th-century poet. At Glenlaurel, you can also pick up a set of hickory-shafted golf clubs and play a round at the eight-hole Scottish golf course, a links-style setup that was all the rage a century ago. Off-site, guests can venture through Hocking Hills State Park's woodsy trails, mystical caves, graceful waterfalls, or ride horses, shoot a bow and arrow at an archery range, or take a trip on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway.
