Warner Mountain Lookout
If you’re seeking solitude, visit this remote 41-foot tower in western Oregon’s Cascade Range. But be warned: This is not a trek for the timid. (During winter, it’s a six- to 10-mile backcountry ski just to get to the place.) Once you’re there, though, the lookout offers both jaw-dropping vistas and charm, including a rare glassed-in observation cupola. Includes: Double bed, propane heating and cooking stoves. No water; outhouse ($65 per night).
Location: Willamette National Forest, Oregon
Available: Mid-November to early May
Elevation: 5,273 feet
