Big Cedar Lodge (Branson, MO)
Leave it to Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris to create what can only be described as a high-end wilderness resort in the heart of the Ozark Mountains. Originally built in the 1920s as two separate residences, the lavish homes were converted into a single property in 1947, and with the addition of a hunting lodge, stable, and swimming pool became the Devil’s Pool Ranch Resort. Forty years later, Morris purchased the property — all 800 acres of it — and restored it to its original grandeur. In June, the property unveiled a major expansion; known as Top of the Rock, the breathtaking, cliff top property features a number of totally unique amenities, including an ancient natural history museum, a nature trail complete with four-story cave and waterfall, a wine cellar and whiskey room, a three-story wedding chapel and honeymoon cabin, a floating golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tom Watson, and a freshly opened 18,000-square-foot spa.
