Gale South Beach & Kaskade Suites (Miami Beach, FL)
Though its reputation is a wild one, Miami Beach — and South Beach in particular — is a city steeped in history. Architecture especially is a source of pride for the city, particularly the hoteliers who work tirelessly to walk the line between preservation and modernization. The Gale South Beach Hotel and its newly opened Kaskade Suites are a perfect example of this. Originally erected in 1941, the L. Murray Dixon-designed Gale South Beach & Regent Hotel were groundbreaking properties for the area, and part of the city’s design trend toward Tropical Art Deco. Though the property eventually fell into disrepair, in 2012 it reopened as an 87-room boutique property that boasts such modern touches as a 5,000 square-foot rooftop pool deck but still retains much of its original 1940s glam, as evidenced by even a quick stroll through the Art Deco-inspired and art-filled lobby or a visit to The Regent Cocktail Club, the hotel’s ground-level craft cocktail bar that features a menu of playful twists on old-school cocktails.
