The Cromlix (Dunblane, Scotland)
Andy Murray may be better known as a tennis legend than a hotelier. But all that could very well change thanks to the Cromlix, the 140-year-old Victorian mansion-turned-country house hotel he purchased in early 2013 with the goal of attracting new visitors to his hometown. After a massive renovation, the hotel reopened in April. Though the property is massive, it features just 10 bedrooms, five suites, and one gate lodge — each with its own unique design, and named after a famous Scot (like poet Robert Burns or former football manager Sir Alex Ferguson) While the rooms maintain much historic charm — freestanding baths in Olympic-appropriate shades of copper, silver, and gold — there are plenty of modern amenities, including iPod docking stations and flat-screen televisions disguised as mirrors.
