15. Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Why you should go: Feel like you’ve traveled all the way to Europe without the trans-Atlantic costs in Montreal, a quintessentially French city that comes alive in the winter. Believe it or not, that’s festival season. Two standouts are Igloofest, an international music festival from January 17 to February 2, and Montreal en Lumiere art and food festival from February 21 to March 3.
Why it’s a steal: You can fly to Montreal for a median airfare of $248 from December through March, and hotel rooms go for around $149 per night, which is 14 percent less than the fall months.
Where to stay: Hotel Monville opened this year in Montreal’s International Quarter, offering robot-operated room service and automated check-in services (via room key distributor). The 269 rooms start at $112.Â
