4. Las Vegas, NV
Why you should go: Sin City’s a glittery, alcohol-soaked party destination year-round, and the holidays are especially next-level. But when daytime temperatures drop to a balmy 60°F in the winter months, you can really get the most of its desert location by hiking at Red Rock Canyon or visit Death Valley National Park.
Why it’s a steal: Flights to Las Vegas are about 28 percent lower than the median airfare for North American flights, dipping all the way down to an average fare of $166 (it’s cheapest if you book a month in advance). The average hotel room goes for about $130 in December and $144 in January.
Where to stay: The entire Park MGM is being revamped, but there’s one part that’s especially exciting (and, no, it’s not the upcoming Eataly outpost coming to its main entrance): The NoMad Las Vegas, a hotel within a hotel, will occupy the top four floors, complete with 293 guest rooms and suites (starting at $189 per night).
