43. Milan, Italy
Why you should go: Milan’s location at the base of the Italian Alps is gorgeous during all seasons. Head into the mountains to ski Monte Blanco, Livingo, and Belluno, all of which are within driving distance. In the city, make sure to visit the opera at La Scala and shop around Via Monte Napoleone or the Piazza Duomo. If fashion’s not your thing, avoid February—that’s when Milan Fashion Week takes place.
Why it’s a steal: You can fly to Milan between December and March for a median airfare of $618. Hotel room cost, on average, is $214 per night.
Where to stay: Hotel nHow Milano is super mod and affordable. The 246 rooms, which feature pops of color against all-white decor, start at $176. Located in the Via Tortona, a former industrial neighbourhood (the building was built on the premises of the old General Electric Factory), this is the epicenter of one of Milan’s coolest neighborhoods.
