Washington, D.C.: America’s New Food Capital
D.C. has never been known for food – unless you count pork (Congress joke!). But over the past decade, the city’s restaurant scene has exploded. Fine dining has gone modern at places like Minibar, whose $225 tasting menu features items like “lemon chicken” with no recognizable lemon or chicken. Comfort foods (donuts, fried chicken) abound. Asian cuisine is booming, too, from ramen-focused Toki Underground to Thai spot Little Serow. Indecisive? Try Union Market, a maze of stalls, shops, and eateries that’ll have you believing change has actually come to Washington.
Getting there: Fly into Reagan National Airport or Dulles International and head to Minibar in Penn Quarter. If that’s a little too pricey for your taste, Toki Underground is 10 minutes away, Little Serow another 10 minutes, and Union Market another 15.Back to top
