Why go: Temperatures soar (up to the 100s) during Austin summers, but those Texas blue skies are hard to resist. Escape the heat by kayaking Lady Bird Lake, boating on Lake Travis, or taking a dip in a spring-fed swimming hole (Barton Springs Pool is a cool 68°F year-round). Though if you can handle the heat, we also recommend catching a concert outside as part of Blues on the Green.
Where to stay: The East Austin Hotel opened in May 2019, and it’s not just a boutique hotel—it’s the city’s newest swim destination. On Sundays, the pool opens to locals for Summer Swell parties, which feature festive pool floaties, tropical drinks, and poolside snacks like Jackfruit Banh Mi from the pool bar. There’s a fire pit for chilly summer nights, too.
