Tintern Abbey in the United Kingdom
Visiting a castle reminiscent of Westeros is something you and your drone should definitely do. Let the fog roll in, take some aerial shots of turrets and towers, overlay some triumphant music, and you’ve got a viral YouTube sensation resonating with the cross-section of drone enthusiasts and Game of Thrones fans. Be warned, a lot of historic European castles are beginning to ban drones. (Some pretty epic videos of Germany’s Hohenzollern Castle perched on a mountain are online, but the castle administration has nixed drone use in the area). The Welsh government, on the other hand, has been using drone cameras to capture bird’s-eye views of Wales’ iconic castles. The Tintern Abbey, one of the best-preserved medieval abbeys in Wales, is worthy of a visit. You’re sure to get some cool, albeit eerie, shots since the shell of this castle is open to the sky.
In your downtime: Kayak or canoe down River Wye and tie up your boat outside of Ye Old Ferrie Inn, a riverside pub that dates back to 1473, for some battered cod and a local ale.
