Branded the “Live Music Capital of the World,” Austin begs to be both seen and heard. The Broken Spoke, a 50-year-old insitution is the best place to break it down country style, but there are plenty of lively bars – notably The White Horse – in East Austin, where the city stays weird. For drinking without the music, check out the tasting room and brewery tours at Jester King. A farmhouse brewery, it makes its beers with water from its well, local grains, and native wild yeast. Looking to get into the Hill Country, go for a boozy float in the Guadelupe River.
More information: Most of the hotels in Austin seemed designed for UT students’ parents. Booking a house just outside of city center on AirBnB and bike or walk around. The weather is almost always perfect.Back to top
