Croatia: Instead of Dubrovnik, go to Rovinj
A major port of call for cruise ships and British stag nights, Dubrovnik is overrun by such tourists for much of the year. Head north, instead, to Istria’s western coast and the fishing port town of Rovinj, where the proximity to Italy (Venice is just three hours away) is reflected in the Venetian pastels of the buildings and excellent olive oils, pasta dishes and fresh seafood on menus. You can go truffle hunting here during the fall and early winter. Check in at the Hotel Lone where the stylish spa (free for guests) is Euro Wellness at its finest with Finnish and Turkish saunas and hydromassage pools frequented by exotic beauties.
