Instead of Iceland, go to Greenland
The saying goes that Iceland is green and Greenland is icy. Both have astounding landscapes and you’d be lucky to visit either. But when it comes to remote and pristine access, Greenland is the way to go. “It’s a fun place from the point of view that it brings together authentic history, Inuit people and Viking heritage,” says Scott Wiseman, President of Cox & Kings, The Americas, “There is of course eco tourism, and a culinary movement, too. You can get up close to a glacier that’s calving…” Adventures can be as extreme as you want them to be, from Cox & Kings’ luxe offerings that include visits to old Dutch whaling settlements in East Greenland to kayaking and camping expeditions through the icy fjords of East Greenland with an outfitter like Black Feather or family-friendly cruises in Western Greenland aboard Hurtigruten.
