37. San Luis Obispo, CA
Why SLO: Another alternative to Napa, SLO is an easy road trip from both Los Angeles and San Francisco. It’s got prime tasting grounds for pinot noir and chardonnay, and even riesling, pinot gris, and albarino. Earn your vino by running or hiking Cerro San Luis Mountain, part of a string of volcanic peaks.
Where to Stay: The Kinney SLO is within walking distance from downtown, and a total throwback to your younger days, thanks to vintage skee-ball and shuffle board games, giant Lite Brite, and college-inspired decor. That said, the local beer and wine on self-serve tap is all grown up.
