Why go: This area isn’t just famous for spawning The Office. One hundred and twenty five miles northwest of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania’s Endless Mountains, you’ll find Montage Mountain Resort, one of just seven resorts in the country to offer airboarding. It’s basically just riding a lightweight inflatable sled, but you reach up to 60 miles per hour while navigating sharp turns. If that seems like a little much, there are 10 trails for snowtubing (reportedly the fastest lanes in Pennsylvania) and, of course, 26 slopes for skiing. You can also try snow tubing at this resort, which offers 10 trails running about 800 feet long in a specially designed park.
Where to stay: Scranton’s hotel scene isn’t exactly bustling, so nab a room at the mountain’s hotel partner, the Hilton. The rooms are clean and have all the necessities, and you’ll be just a 13-minute drive from the mountain.
