Get Lost In The Woods
We like to tout Asheville, North Carolina, as one of America’s best beer towns, but it’s also surrounded by high peaks, great hiking, and national parks including Pisgah, Nantahala, and Great Smoky Mountains. These woods offer nearly any outdoor activity known to humankind including hiking, hunting, off-roading, mountain biking, and camping. It’s also loaded with rivers and lakes. Outfitters around Asheville will set you up to canoe kayak, stand-up paddleboard, and tubing on the Nantahala, French Broad, or Pigeon rivers.
And about the beer: Asheville recently surpassed Portland, Oregon, for having the most breweries per capita in the U.S. A couple favorites: Wicked Weed, which specializes in hoppy West Coast–style ales and sours, and Burial Beer, rich, inventive takes on classic American styles. You can also hit the East Coast breweries of Sierra Nevada and Oskar Blues on the drive out of town.Back to top
