6. Get Lost in the Souks of the Deira District
The glitz and glamour of the Emirates’ biggest city can make you forget you’re in a culturally rich Middle Eastern crossroads. The famous markets of Deira, however, are a stark dose of the real Dubai. First hit the stunning gold market — aka the “City of Gold” — where you’ll find some of the finest craftsmanship in the region. Then, hold your nose as you check out cucumber-sized prawns at the fish market, and, finally, cleanse your pallet at the fragrant and colorful spice market.
Book it: The Deira district is a few miles north of the city center; early mornings are the time to see the markets at their liveliest.
