Go Snowboarding in Perisher Valley, Australia
Here’s a shocker: You’ll find the Southern Hemisphere’s largest alpine resort in Australia. Perisher is spread across seven mountain peaks in the island nation’s highest range. This popular “ski field” claims a whopping 47 lifts, 4.8 square miles of backcountry terrain and more than 70 designated runs, most of which are graded for intermediate skiers. It also boasts an international reputation that’s on the rise thanks to its acquisition by Vail Resorts in March for a reported $177 million.
How to get here: Perisher Valley is equidistant from airports in Sydney and Melbourne (about 6 hours by car or bus), but you could connect onward to Canberra International Airport and be just 2.5 hours away.
