Walk Portugal’s wild Alentejo Coast.
The newly created Rota Vicentina is a walking path that follows the rugged contours of southwestern Portugal for 70 miles from Cape St Vincent to the village of Odeceixe, where the trail splits in two with an Historical Way veering inland and a Fishermen’s Trail hugging the coast. This wild stretch of Atlantic coastline (largely within the vast Alentejo region) is often referred to as Europe’s “empty corner,” with some of the most unspoiled beaches on the continent, not to mention imposing cliffs, soaring sand dunes and prismatic wildflowers. Bring your own camping gear or sleep in rural B&Bs in the fishing villages along the way.
What’s new? The trail is less than five years old and adds new splintering loops and local partners every year.
