Great Wall of China
The Place: Stretching more than 13,000 miles, the Great Wall of China is not only one of Beijing’s most popular attractions but it’s one of the greatest structural achievements known to man. It took more than 1,800 years to build, and to be able to stand in awe of it is definitely worth the crowds.
Beat the Crowds: While weekends tend to be the worst time of the week to visit as far as tourists go, there are also entire months that should be avoided altogether. While the months between June to August are typically the busiest, nothing compares to February during the Chinese New Year. Knowing which section of the wall to see is often even more important than when you go. Badaling, Mutianyu, and parts of Jinshanlin have been restored and are some of the easier parts of the Great Wall to navigate. Booking a tour in advance of your trip is highly recommended and often includes transportation to and from the Great Wall along with a history of its significance to this region over the years.
