Book a Pet-Friendly Room
Kearney stayed at everything from small B&Bs to big-name hotels. He says that two chains, Kimpton and La Quinta, are always pet-friendly with no pet fees. However, you still need to tell the hotel you’re bringing a dog when you come. “If only certain rooms are dog-friendly, you want to make sure you reserve one of those rooms,” says Nicole Ellis, a former Hollywood dog trainer and employee at pet travel company DogVacay.com.
If you prefer to support local businesses, Kearney says that sites like BringFido.com and PetFriendlyTravel.com provide more localized listings. But, he also recommends that you call the hotel or B&B to double check that bringing your dog is allowed: “Sometimes the third-party sites are just archived information that’s not up-to-date.”
Finally, major travel sites like TripAdvisor, Airbnb, and Hotels.com have added pet-friendly filters to their search options. Like the previous two recommendations, though, Kearney says you need to call the hotel to confirm — and ask if there’s a pet fee.Back to top
