Day Five: Sault to Vaison la Romaine, 31 Miles
Today you’ll skirt Mont Ventoux as you begin to make your way back towards your starting point. Vaison la Romaine is close to Aix, where you began your trip, but it still feels quaint. Spend time in town exploring the massive and well-preserved ancient Roman ruins or sign up for a lesson at the local Cuisines de Provence Cooking School.
Stay the night at Les Tilleuls d’Elisee, a rustic B&B set underneath a mature olive grove. The authentic homestead is just two blocks from downtown Vaison, but it feels completely removed from any sort of hustle. The owners are bonafide foodies too, and they’re happy to show guests where to buy the best local food products — like olive oil and almonds–to take home with you.
