Rancho del Cielo, Ronald Reagan
Rancho del Cielo, Ronald Reagan’s Santa Barbara ranch (often referred to as “the western White House” during his two terms), is not open to the public, but does allow visits from supporters to what it self-describes as “a living monument to Reagan’s ideas, values, and lasting accomplishments.” In other words, if you want to go, you’ll have to make a donation. Luckily, this estate is a perfect educational excuse for a trip to one of America’s most beautiful vacation destinations: Santa Barbara. Take a drive up the coast from Los Angeles, have an obligatory political debate on trickle down economics (for fun, bring along someone with opposing political views), and then shake it off by throwing back a few glasses at the beach town’s many lovely wineries.
Local tip: The famous Santa Barbara Winery is only ten miles away from Rancho del Cielo. Convenience!Back to top
