Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee
While close to the northern range of the path of totality with only about a minute of total darkness in most spots, this Tennessee park makes for an interesting viewing site thanks to the natural backdrops you can watch the eclipse shadows race across. There’s a big, ticketed event being held in the parking lot at Clingmans Dome, but they’re bussing in the masses from Gatlinburg. You’re best off venturing onto the Appalachian Trail north of here for less crowded viewing areas.
Watch: Any spot along the Appalachian Trail on the Tennessee or North Carolina side of the park.Back to top
