In April, when AirBnB launched in Cuba, Americans took one step closer to legal travel to a nation that, while only 90 miles south of Florida, once felts worlds away. AirBnB’s expansion into Cuba was one of the most significant business developments for the U.S. in five decades, and reflected a sincere effort by the Obama administration to encourage American travel to the country. Citizens are now permitted to fly to Cuba if they fall into one of 12 categories, which with a little creative thinking is fairly easy to do. In May, the U.S. even removed the country from the state-sponsored terrorism list.
Cuba is now one of AirBnBs fastest growing markets, with more than 2,000 listings across the island nation. The company grew quickly by tapping into an existing network of bed and breakfasts referred to locally as Casa Particulars, which have been permitted for several years under new laws allowing for entrepreneurship.
This summer it will become even easier to travel to Cuba with ferries approved to run from Florida, and JetBlue set to fly into Havana later this month. In the meantime, here are 10 of the best AirBnB listings in Havana that will get you packing.
