The 8-day extravaganza in a mostly lawless, 400-square-mile section of desert in the United States brings many things: rampant sex, drugs, and … art installations. If you’re going only for the latter, you won’t be disappointed. Here, the desert allows for a different kind of artwork with fewer limitations — making them bigger, more flammable, and interactive. The results: trees that jut 60 feet out of the desert, a man and woman embracing seven stories above the ground, a defensive Alien Siege Machine, and a mobile Lost Tea Party that consists of elongated kettles that host tea parties on the go. So we grabbed our CamelBak, some goggles, and a dust mask, and climbed (or just explored) some of this year’s best pieces.
