Pennsylvania Ave, Washington D.C.
When Andy Clarke, president of the League of American Bicyclists, isn’t pedaling along the Mount Vernon Trail on the banks of the Potomac, he’s on Pennsylvania Ave. “Riding toward the Capitol on a clear sunny day or in the evening with the moon rising is one of the moments that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up,” said Clarke. “The Capitol is such an iconic building, and Pennsylvania Ave. affords such a remarkable view; you have the best seat in the house in the bike lane.” Apparently, a lot of locals agree. People for Bikes reported that the number of cyclists on Pennsylvania Avenue during peak hours in 2013 had “grown seven times faster than the citywide average since April 2010.”
