Beartooth Scenic Byway
Where It Goes: CBS journalist Charles Kuralt once called Beartooth “the most scenic drive in America.” Following the old Sheridan Trail, it can be reached from Wyoming State Highway 120, and weaves north into Montana, then back over the border into Wyoming, through the Beartooth Pass, reaching a height of 10,947 feet.
Length: 159 miles
Driving Time: 3+ hours
Where to Stop: You’ll definitely want to explore the Shoshone National Forest, which offers stunning views of Beartooth Lake and the surrounding mountains. And your adventure doesn’t have to be over once you’re off the byway: Take US State Route 212 to the Roosevelt Lodge, at which point you’re just down the road from Yellowstone.
