Hotel Cinco Punta de Mita, Mexico
Mexico’s Punta de Mita is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Pacific and eye-catching coastline. Surf is typically smaller in the Punta de Mita area than is typical for mainland Mexico, so it’s the perfect destination for a mellow longboard-friendly surf trip. The area is shadowed by Baja Sur and Cabo Corrientes, so some swell angles miss the spot’s breaks. On the whole, it’s a good bet from April to October, or December to March.
Where You'll Stay: The four-story Hotel Cinco is located on the beach at El Anclote and offers two- and three-bedroom suites. Rooms include kitchens and most have ocean-view terraces. Freshly caught fish and locally farmed produce are the main ingredients at the Tuna Blanca Restaurant. Drink a cold brew at Hotel Cinco’s rooftop La Azotea and watch the sunset. The Cinco AquaCenter Concierge is ready to help with surf and other ocean adventures, and there are multiple breaks within easy boating distance of the hotel.
Rates and Getting There: Rates vary by season and start at $290. Hotel Cinco is a 45-minute drive from the Puerto Vallarta airport. For an additional fee, the hotel will arrange airport pickup. [cincopuntamita.com]
