Tail of the Dragon
Length: 11 miles
Driving Time: Short, especially if you don’t observe the 35 mph speed limit
Route: With 318 curves over the course of just more than 10 miles, the Tennessee’s Tail of the Dragon may have more turns per mile than any other road in the United States. Intersecting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this stretch of U.S. Route 129 is both scenic and challenging.
Where to Stop: The Tree of Shame, a shrine to riders who have laid their bikes down on the Tail of the Dragon. Moto parts hang from the branches and are nailed to the tree.
