Topnotch Resort, Stowe, Vermont
An oldie but goodie (the hotel opened as a ski club back in 1953), this contemporary resort about five miles from Stowe Mountain Resort re-opened to rave reviews in 2013 after renovations north of the $15 million mark. Topnotch is a casually luxe experience now with none of the old school ski lodge feel of yesteryear, with newly-minimalist rooms overlooking classic Mount Mansfield views, two new restaurants that spotlight local producers (Vermont lagers, yes please) and a cool Scandi-vibe to the public spaces. The outdoor heated pool is the après-ski pièce de résistance, and snowmobiling, ice climbing, back country skiing and ice fishing can all be arranged.
