Berkeley River Lodge, Kununurra, Australia
How to get there: private plane
Most of Australia is pretty remote once you get away from the coastal cities, but the Berkeley River Lodge—in western Oz, on the Kimberley coastline between Kununurra and Darwin—is especially isolated. In fact, it has no real address and no road access; you have to fly in and it’s only accessible via a private landing strip. But that seclusion is a total boon to adventurists: You can go on helicopter rides over King George and Mitchell Falls; take river cruises or gorge hikes to Casuarina Falls; swim the secluded water holes of Berkeley Creek; and four-wheel drive through the nearby bush and beaches. Wind down at one of the 20 luxury villas, all of which have 180-degree views of the ocean or river.
