Fogo Island Inn, Newfoundland, Canada
How to get there: plane, drive, and ferry
So you want to go to Fogo? Fly through Halifax or St. John’s, then transfer for a flight to Gander Airport, then drive one hour to the ferry, then hang tight for 45 minutes until you dock on Fogo Island. Situated in the Labrador Current along “Iceberg Alley,” the island is considered one of the four corners of the flat earth. Fogo Island Inn, which was architecturally inspired by fishing stacks, is only 300 feet long and 30 feet wide (with 29 rooms). But it’s full of things that’ll make you feel at home in this tiny community: local cuisine, hand-crafted furniture, and activity programs that pair locals with visitors.
