Hotel Arctic, Ilulissat, Greenland
How to get there: two flights plus drive
It’s kind of ironic that a country with “green” in its name is mostly covered with ice, which also happens to make travel pretty difficult. The Hotel Arctic—which is located approximately 150 miles north of the Arctic Circle—is only reachable via a one-hour flight from the main airport, Kangerlussuaq, to Ilulissat, followed by a short drive. Once there, though, you can take in the unreal, glacial-filled landscape of Disko Bay—or head out to sail and whale watch among them. From May through September, you can get an even closer look at the ‘bergs by staying in one of the property’s igloos.
