Rifugio Torre di Pisa, Cima Cavigno, Italy
How to get there: two- or three-hour hike
Hikers will love this lodge tucked into the Italian Dolomites. Rifiguio Torre di Pisa’s said to be named after one of the nearby peaks, which looks like the Tower of Pisa. And that’s just one little slice of the stunning landscape you can take in from the 8,700-foot elevation. During the lengthy hike to get here, you’ll traverse alpine pastures and winding mountain paths, then take a cable car and chairlift. It’s only open June through November, due to weather conditions, and there are no frills—just 20 bunk beds split between two dormitories and one bathroom. But who really cares when you’ve got views like this?
