Watch California Skiers Go Rock Skiing After a Snowless Winter

In an attempt to raise awareness about global warming and the West Coast drought, filmmakers at Happy United Picture Club put together a thought-provoking video of a skier and a snowboarder plunging down a snowless slope and face first into the gravel. In normal years, California’s snowpack supplies roughly 30 percent of California’s water needs, so the "no snow, no water" phrase is a stark reminder of the broad effects of what is now a four year, crippling dry spell.

The drought forced some ski areas in the west to close early this past season. According to the California Department of Water Resources, there was no snow to be found in the place where measurements are taken for annual snowpack surveys.
