Polar Bear Hotel: Tundra Lodge, Churchill, Manitoba
There are only 20,000 polar bears left on the planet, and the best place to see them is a 29-room off-road rolling lodge that heads to the bears’ summering grounds along Canada’s Hudson Bay. “There’s this up-close interaction with the bears,” says Elisabeth Kruger, who served as the lodge’s biologist last summer. “There’s nowhere else in the world where you can have that experience.” By day, you can watch the bears from an open-air viewing platform. At night, the northern lights provide the entertainment. The lodge is open for seven weeks starting in October. [$7,895 per week; nathab.com]
Getting there: Book a flight into Winnipeg, Manitoba; the lodge rate includes a round-trip flight from there to Churchill.
